Summary:
Transfer a taxon from one parent to another, creating a new combination
8. Transfer a taxon from one parent to another,
creating a new combination
/taxon/replace?uuid=uuid&newParent=uuid
Prerequisite: Parent T1, Child T2, New Parent T3
Actions:
• Create new name
• Create new taxon T4
• Add T4 as child of T3

• Make T2 a Synonym of T4
• Remove T2 from T1
Errors
• New combination must have same genus & uninominal,
(specific epithet) as new parent: Recovery:
auto-populate these fields from parent
• New combination must have same basionym author (and
nomenclatural reference if zoological) as basionym.
Recovery: auto-populate from T2
• New combination must belong to the same homotypic
group and have the same type designation as basionym.
Recovery: auto-populate from T2
• Child must not have the same epithets, rank,
authorship and nomenclatural citations as another name
(i.e. should not be a duplicate). Recovery: give users
the option to drop new taxon name and use the existing one
• Accepted child name cannot have the same genus name &
terminal epithet (in the case of zoology), genus name,
specific epithet & infraspecific epithet (in the case
of botany) as this creates a homonym. Recovery: warn
user, then give the option to auto-create a homonym
instead, and specify a new replacement name.
